From what I understand his oponent was a reformer, which is, possibly, what the voters cared about the most.
The west will no doubt use this for their own purposes. However, I'm with the west on this one due to the fact that there are human rights violations here.

I have no idea what's going on in Iran, but it seems too often that governments from the Middle East are considered to be evil dictatorships
It would seem hard to deny that the countries there are dictatorships. Some countries do have elections (Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Jordan spring to mind) but (except in Iraq maybe) these elections seem to give the voters no option to choose something that differs from the current authorities. Iraq and Afghanistan have their own problems and it remains to be seen if these could become stable countries in the long run.
I'm not sure whether these dictatorships are more evil than other dictatorships throughout the world, but it seems far fetched that the US would want to overthrow all these dictatorships. The US has pretty good connections with Saudi Arabia and Egypt, for example: these can hardly be called proper democracies. Relations with Syria and Iran are pretty bad, but I do not think anyone expects a US attack on either of these in the years to come, and if they were attacked, it would not in the first place be to bring democracy but to avoid them getting WMD (similar to Iraq).

Ya these countries have elections, which I suppose is better not having any like in Afghanistan. But in Iran progress is so slow that it doesn't matter who's in power. Egypt I'm guessing is like Turkey where it's basically run by the military. Also there were huge problems with the Iraqi election, namely that when it became clear that the winner was not going to be who the US wanted, the US tried to rig the elections, then the people went ape shit so the US had to back down...essentially the US tried to do in Iraq what the Iranian govnt is trying to do right now.

Are we going to start the Iraqi WMD thing again?

both the us and uk have good relations with the saudi royal family. it is a mutual relationship where one gives oil and the other supplies deference equipment in return.

Actually it's the 1974 US-Saudi petro dollar agreement. The Saudis provide the US with, possibly cheap, oil, and in return the US takes the money they would've given to the Saudis for the oil and reinvests it in their own economy (treasury bills), and then takes the interest the Saudis would've earned off of them, and reinvests it AGAIN in US corporations who go to Saudi Arabia to modernize it.
Even John Perkins, the guy who helped make this deal, can't believe the Saudis were stupid enough to agree to it.
I don't know how the British factor in to this.

Bottom line is that no one can tell for sure whether there has been massive fraud in the elections in Iran. I am not sure why there would be a need for such a fraud in the first place, given the fact that any candidates that were unacceptable to the ucurrent ruler were filtered out in the process prior to the elections.

That's true, I've heard conflicting results as to whether it was rigged.

Ya it's almost comical from our perspective since the range of candidates is on such a narrow spectrum. But I suppose it's not much different from the US: Two candidates who are essentially the same, and an entire country divided down the middle.

how?? well its simple let me explain in a way you will understand very well
"Right now, as you read this passage of text, your occipital cortex is very active, processing all of the visual information you are encountering - the words, the letters, and the features of the letters. The frontal lobe of your neocortex is engaged in processing the meaning of the text you're reading - the meanings of the words, the sentences, and the big picture, and it is working to relate what you are reading with what you already know. Surprisingly, your temporal lobe (particularly on the left side of your brain if you're right handed) is also active right now, processing all of the "sounds" associated with reading - even though you're reading silently to yourself, the areas of the brain that process speech sounds are active just like they would be if you were listening to somebody speak. Your brain is very structured in the way it processes information. Complex tasks such as reading a passage of text are broken down into easier tasks, and the easier tasks are distributed to the areas of the brain that specialize in those tasks."
You're just a pathetic liar, but I'm sure everyone knows that by now (except Mihai maybe, but he is willing to believe conspiracy theories, go figure).

OK puk, I'll be the one to inform you that the captn wasn't who you think he was. How can I say it... he isn't REAL. I made him up. Many regulars here aren't who you think they are... do you actually think Alez is real?
OK... they where all made by me so I can keep myself occupied in talking with them... I can't tell you about the others, berzerker, Pogma9 and the other few who come and go... I said enough and you should do your own figuring out... but read this, YOU TOO might not be who you think you are.
