The game is phenomenal, but the learning curve is steep. I've been meaning to do a review for it, but I definitely have to finish it a few times before my review can do it justice

no the learning curve is quite trival and simple.

oh please dont man, please. the game is a legend in itself and doesn't need a review unless sulislide does it.

no the learning curve is quite (sic.) trival and simple.
I disagree, it requires a great deal of foresight you simply don't have on the first run through.
For example, augmentations: the first time through you might use them too frequently or too sparingly.
Also skills: on my first run through I started upgrading everything, whereas I realize now that I should've specialized the skills I was going to use (lockpicking&hacking, or shooting, or swimming...)
Also how you play the game has an affect on the story, story one run through you might miss something.
I also want to play it again with the high res package installed.

You never play RPG's then? Upgrading everything would seem really silly. If that was the proper way to play the game what would be the point of making it an RPG in the first place?

So true
I usually stick to RTS or FPS.
The first time I realized this was in Bioshock. The first time through I didn't enjoy the game b/c I didn't know how to use the other plasmids, I just stuck to the shock plasmid.
But Deus Ex is even more unforgiving when it comes to upgrades. Next time through the game I'm going to focus more on hacking and lockpicking since that's my favorite.

...but if you've been alive during George W. Bush's presidency, the entire plot of the game is basically spoiled for you. The basic plot of the game is the exact same thing as George W. Bush's presidency: a terrorist attack on New York (Statue of Liberty instead of WTC) turned the country into martial law (Patriot Act), a new group was found to create terrorism (UNATCO instead of Homeland Security), a global disaster (Gray Death instead of Katrina, SARS, Swine Flu, the yearlong rolling blackouts in California, etc.) caused even more panic, freedom fighters were scapegoated (NSF instead of Muslims), and everyone was poor and suffering (same in both cases).

you just lost your bet. when i played deus ex, that was a long time ago, i can remember sometimes i would hit the levels blazing and sometimes with the sophistication of a computer hacker and sometimes with the guile of a ninja.
