I ran into it in the book "In the Shadow of War"
there was an almost exact similar case but after Vietnam.
Well, we had pogroms throughout history all over the world, this is not a typical US thing. Humans are not a nice species overall it seems.

I had never before heard the term pogrom
The thing is, I think this was a typical US thing before the 60's. They have a very violent history, and only recently (since the vietnam war) have they become civilized (that is not to say other countries were/are more civilized)

Obviously there are minor physical differences between races (build, hair, colour) and maybe there are non-physical differences too, but it seems fair to assume these are minor too (otherwise they would be easily noticable). But I take it your question refers to something else?
