Of course he is right that GM has to make drastic changes: there is no reason to assume the company will do better if nothing changes other than that the government becomes a majority shareholder.
But I do not understand his focus on fast trains. The infrastructure will be very expensive and trains can carry only a limited number of people. Who will want to spend 17 hours in a train if he wants to from New York to L.A. (an example he mentions)? This sort of distances are not usually covered by car, I would think, but by plane. So what's the relationship with GM then?
Planes are not really environmentally friendly, but maybe the money MM wants to spend on trains had better be spent on making planes environmentally friendlier.
