I prefer Descent than Terminal Velocity, but I growed up with VGA graphics so maybe I've idealized them like who idealize Ford Mustangs and lonely roads.
met the decent team. had applied for a job back then. didnt get it though ..anyways looking back i am at a better place now
Nowadays when you see games like Red Alert 3, you fucking wonder where the hell is the people capable of make ones like Descent was in its time.

Game developers could probably develop similar games now too. But the market has changed. Gaming has become mainstream (different audience), more expensive to make (requiring bigger sales to make up the costs) and console oriented (thanks to piracy on the PC I presume).

For sure, they are doing fucking console sequels or being stolen from pc to console development.
All the "pc piracy" is a myth, it's simply there are much more consoles because any monkey can use them but a decent gaming focused pc needs some computer knowledge. So they sell more console games, plus all the mob strategies to punish the pc gamers (since 2004 we only get console ports late and bugged to force people buying his fucking pieces of shit pc-wannabe hardware), how the hell wouldn't be more console games sales?
And all the "[crying baby sound] we lose moneeeeyyyy [crying baby sound] is because of fucking MBA (Motherfucker Bullshit Administration) are all big pussies that cry if they don't get moar than 40% of profit. In the 80's and 90's only "nerds and kids" played games and still they got enough money, why nowadays they supposely lose money selling millions and millions of games? BECAUSE THEY COOK UP THE ACCOUNTING TO COVER HIS STEALING OF MONEY, all executives in corporations do it.

Are you an executive yourselves? If so, give me my money back, and if not, why aren't you?
BTW to my surprise I got Fallout 3 running decently on my system at 1280 x 800 or so (odd resolution, never noticed that before) at medium, and played it for an hour or so (just entered Megaton). It seems quite OK so far. Only melee combat seems clumsy, but I guess I must level up first; in Morrowind melee was clumsy at the start of the game too).
This bodes badly for future games for you I suppose.
Yes...as an adult, I understand the relationship between technical, graphical and AI improvements related to better hardware and game engines, however, most people buy underpowered and overpriced PC's to begin with and are behind the 8 ball straight up.
These suckers don't want the ongoing improvements in games to further pressure their shitty systems, especially as it will highlight what a slow PC they have and how they were sucked in by DELL's advertising.
One thing to remember though, I think FO3's gameplay is very good, and perhaps the best of 08, but I don't rate games on gameplay alone, especially considering how badly they fucked us over when we don't use VATS.
The fact is, I can run Crysis and Stalker at 1920x1200 on high, and these are the best looking games to date, yet I only have a E8400 and 4850, and atm there's over twice that level of performance available, yet we may not see a game to take advantage of that for 6-12 months.

I'm currently playing Fallout 3 but i dunno, the world looks a million times better than Stalker yet it's such a generic RPG that you can ignore the date and imagine playing any other medieval game with a lot of fancy bows. The gameplay is painfully bland.
I'm enjoying the world and the exploring....and yes, I'd prefer better weapons etc, but that seems to be the nature of most games, they get a few parts right, but stuff up other elements of it.
I also don't normally play RPG style of games, but as I said, I think these hybrids are the future, but they need to take the combat and weapons seriously....for example, how do I steady FO3's sniper rifle?????......I'd have more luck guessing where my target was than using the scope, lol.
I didn't wanna get offtopic in the other topic...
I'm using a sniper rifle mod to steady the fucker so you can actually use the sniper rifle as....a SNIPER rifle.
The guns were the thing that put me off playing it when it came out. I can't accept shooting something in the fucking head and not killing it. It's fucking stupid. Make me miss or something at least, don't let me shoot the fucker in the head with a rocket and have him still live. This only works and is only fun in multiplayer games like Unreal Tournament where you need balance.
I can see RPG/FPS Hybrids as the future. FPS is apparently still in the COVER system phase and i think it's gonna be in the future some more but it could become the mainstream alternative to RPGs.
I guess it depends on how you look at them. Either VERY complicated shooters or VERY simple roleplaying games.

Can you take out a Super Mutant with a long range headshot?
Btw, I didn't realize I could use the "wait command"{default T} and place myself at any time of day or night in FO3.....nifty!
I'm losing interest in run and gun shooters, and I'm now focusing on tactical and RPG's, but it seems like most people are more than happy with any ole console type of shit.
Two games that had tremendous promise were Far Cry2 and BIA HH, but both have been ruined by the console disease.

You can't take them out. It just makes the weapon stable. But it's still an rpg system, not a SHOOTING system in a game where you....SHOOT.
Or maybe i haven't found the right mod yet. I'd fucking LOVE to have real guns in fallout, not this bullshit of dice rolling.
Brothers in Cock also had another disease...even greater than the incurable console one. THE FUCKING WORLD FUCKING WAR 2 disease. It's worse than the plague. Console gamers have simple gameplay and shit like that, pc gamers have MMOs and WW2 games.

Yeah, I noticed that.
In real time{non-VATS}, I think you need to ensure your crosshair goes red, but of course, they can still move around a bit.
I found that the combat shotgun is very powerful, especially in VATS.
I think it's gonna take me 40+hrs to finish this game, lol.

I don't use vats that often. It's just a way to give off some free damage without taking anything back. Might be my character build, i dunno. Unless i'm really close i get shitty accuracy on shooting limbs.
Well at least the shooting is ok in vats. I mean, there you have a % to hit someone and it's related not only to his distance but to his position. Too bad when you exit vats you start unloading clips in enemy heads again.
I'm not sure what you mean by the crosshair. This game has no "real time" combat. Bullets are just like melee weapons. Just like anything else, you hit their character and hope for the high dice roll to do damage.
Didn't you love it in stalker when you had headshot after headshot from your super upgraded and repaired rifle? Yeah, it was so nice.
In fallout there is no point in trying to snipe shit. You don't have range weapons, you have melee at a distance. This doesn't fucking work in a shooter. It works in diablo or hell, it even works in oblivion because you mostly use swords.
And fuck the people who enjoyed this type of gun-play compared to stalker, may their hamster die in the arms of a gypsie. Say what you will but the gun combat in fallout 3 is crap.

I didn't see it as a must. Even with shitloads of AP you still have to fight most of the time without vats. If they wanted to do something tactical and shit then you shouldn't have a limit, just make it turn based or something.
To me it seems like they were kinda unsure were to go with it so they kinda put it something there...so they can have "tactical" combat.
Either way, the VATS is insane slow. You can't skip the cutscenes so it eats too much time long after it stopped looking cool. Those exploding heads from pistols are get boring incredibly fast.
VATS is shit...

No, i didn't. I know they had turn based combat if that's what you're trying to say. It doesn't matter anyway, this is oblivion with a fallout skin. I played morrowind and oblivion and i felt like i was playing them all over again.

I can't get over how massive FO3 is, and how long it takes to play.
And damn, the DC area is a big improvement to the Capitol Wastelands, plus you get some better guns like the AK47 and the combat shotgun.
I now also play in the daylight all the time.....T button is a nifty feature
To me, this is definately a must have game, especially if you have the grunt to max it on a large LCD.
I think the first 1/4 of the game is weak, although I did like the megaton level, and the weapons just don't work outside of VATS, as such, the sniper/scope weapons are essentially useless, but considering how much better the environments became, and the length of the game, I'm going to give this game my full approval{aren't you delighted}.
I also think that making the weapons cockeyed outside of VATS was deliberate.

I just re-installed GRAW2, and ho, ho, the weapons are slick mofo's.....drop to prone, and snipe the fuckers into submission, Sir yes Sir
