IPCC, 2500 climate experts confirm global warming

Royal Society Warns Humanity

The Warning to Humanity Statement 1992

Ecologists Warning to Humanity

GEO-3 Report, 1100 scientists

05/22/2002) UN report by 1,100 scientists warns 70% of the natural world will be destroyed over the 30 years due to over-population, deforestation, pollution, global warming, the spread of non-native species, and other human impacts, causing the mass extinction of species, severe water shortages, and the collapse of human society in many countries.

NAS confirms Anthropogenic GW

Global Warming
A landmark study has moved the existence of global warming from a subject of debate to a commonly accepted scientific principle. The report from the National Academy of Sciences - National Research Council (NAS/NRC) entitled CLIMATE CHANGE SCIENCE, AN ANALYSIS OF SOME KEY QUESTIONS marks the first time a study commissioned by the federal government has publicly concluded that global warming exists. The study says that global warming "is real and particularly strong within the past 20 years." A total of 14 specific questions were addressed by the study, ranging from "Is climate change occurring? If so, how?" to "What are the specific areas of science that need to be studied further, in order of priority, to advance our understanding of climate change?" The report states "greenhouse gases are accumulating in Earth's atmosphere as a result of human activities, causing surface air temperatures and subsurface ocean temperatures to rise. Temperatures are, in fact, rising." The report notes that "changes observed over the last several decades are likely mostly due to human activities," but the NAS/NRC could not rule out the possibility that a significant part of the climate changes could be the result of natural variability. Regardless of the reason for the climate change, global warming is expected to continue through the 21st century. While in some areas, the rising temperatures will cause a rise in sea level, computer model simulations also project "an increased tendency towards drought over semi-arid regions, such as the U.S. Great Plains."

If this has been brought up on a forum like this, then it's not true.

god its so total shit.

You can tell because they actually changed it from global warming to global climate change. Really blows when you have to change your catchphrase for your bullshit.

Actually you know it's true when even the neo cons have stopped trying to undermine it.

No it's not. I read something about solar explosions and they're responsible for the climate change and they're normal and only temporary. Other planets have climate change too and there's nobody there to pay global warming taxes. This is the truth in my opinion.

Well, if you read something somewhere icon_study.gif it must be true of course. toothy5.gif

And those other planets with climate change, are that also planets with billions of inhabitants who pollute the atmosphere? I remember seeing such a planet in Star Trek, so I guess you are right. icon_albino.gif

There have been many climate changes in the past (ice ages only a few thousand years ago for example), so I do not think the fact that climate changes occur is in debate. In debate is whether human behaviour pottytrain5.gif is the main cause of this particular climate change.

He's probably talking about something like Jupiter or Venus.

The thing is, these are highly dynamic systems, and even the earth has undergone global climate change (ice age anyone?). The difference here is that the change is MUCH faster. The ice age took hundreds/thousands of years to take effect, here the climate change has only taken decades.

Ultimitely this form of life is not sustainable.

Yeah, I edited my previous post along similar lines while you were writing yours. Great minds think alike. icon_cheers.gif

Now we will have to see what brilliant insight General Pugwash glasses11.gif will come up with, so that we can stand in awe once more in admiration of such genius. brushteeth.gif

There's a quote in MGS4 where the colonel says something along the lines of "...the politicians are too scared of plunging the world economy into another global depression to do anything about the [PMCs]".

That's essentially the same thing here with gobal warming. America is not going to slap restrictions on GM or Walmart...they'll just move their base of operations to another country. In fact that is brilliance of the WTO: removing economic barriers gives corporations a lot more power.

30 years ago, durring the 1974 oil embargo, Jimmy Carter actually tried to limit carbon emissions by putting tighter restrictions on the auto industry, but the media crucified him for this (as well as for the Iranian hostage crisis, I can elaborate on this if you want).

curbing global warming is political and economical suicide. The only country which has said "fuck you" to the rest of the world, and decided to unilaterally go green is Germany.

That's the impression they want to give, but they protect their car industry at the expense of the environment
(http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/dec/02/travel-and-transport-carbon-emissions) and their energy plants are quite pollutive (http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2396828,00.html).

I would think they are not better or worse than other Western-European countries (of course way better than the USA but hopefully the USA will change now with the new government), partly because it simply requires a very long period of time to turn around an economy.

Berzerker, I should've been more specific. I have not looked into all of their industries, but they have been particularly kind towards technology for use in wind power. They even made it a law that energy companies were obligated to buy energy from ordinary people who happend to have windmills. Essentially they are promoting a grass roots wind energy movement. Imagine if your country made it a law that the agricultural management department had to purchase soil from you if you had a compost...I'd start using composts like crazy.

When I said it's the "brilliance of the wto" I didn't mean I support it. It's sort of like how advertising is brilliant since it pushes up the cost of, well, anything, but more particularly media such as TV and newspapers, so grass roots movements can't enter in the arena. That's actually how the working class news papers were wiped out in England in the mid 1800's (see Manufacturing Consent).

What I meant was that the corporations are very smart. They set up these treaties to give them more leverage over governments. Essentially to ensure politics does not dictate policy...It's Milton Friedman's wet dream

FYI, I'm going drinking, so I can't promise that my next post won't be completely incoherent.

What the hell are you talking about? Aren't there other planets in our solar system? So to REPHRASE I was saying that solar explosions affect every planet in the solar system, so not only our planet is getting hotter, but others too, and since the other planets have a population of 0 (or maybe just a few alien colonies, lol) there is nobody there to pollute the planets and cause climate change. This is the most rational explanation that I've found.

So is my English THAT BAD?

Q....if the authorities and the scientist's of the IPCC are lying to us, can we trust any branch of science?
