I compiled some rudimentary statistics again, this time about the number of review that were published on this site. Does the impression that this site is in decline and that the number of reviews is dwindling have a factual basis?
2003, being year 1, had lots of very short reviews and contained a lot of old reviews, so it was to be expected that the number of reviews would be high that year. The odd one out is clearly 2009, with a volume that almost doubled the then-usual volume.
Other than that we could conclude that the volume gradually diminished over the years (2013 volume being barely more than half the 2004 volume), and that this site will cease to exist in 2041, when there will be no new reviews at all.
BTW I excluded the following articles from the above numbers, as not being reviews:
- 2003 - "Sex with a robot?"
- 2004 - "The Lightspeed Girls", the "Game of the Year Awards 2003" and "Interview with Gabe Newell"
- 2005 - "Game of the Year Awards 2004", "Script kiddie defaces VGS", and "EA extorts Battlefield 2 players"
- 2006 - "Alert! RewiredMind is a big pile of shit!" and "Game of the Year Awards 2005"
- 2007 - "Game of the Year Awards 2006"
- 2008 - "Jordan Capri" and "Angry Video Game Nerd/Zero Punctuation Can Both Suck My Cock"
- 2009 - "3DRealms Shutting Down!"
- 2011 - "Merry Hitchmas!", "Bioware stole the story from Mass Effect from Star Control", "Capcom Selling Cheat Codes as DLC", "IGN Lies". "If Quake Was Done Today", "Bioware running out of Digital Copies of The Old (Crap) Republic", "Deus Ex 3 is heading the way of Deus Ex 2" and "Cancel your Dragon Age 2 Preorder - Bioware fucked it up"
- 2012 - "Grametrailers is fucking Garbage" and "EA Losing 500+ Employees!"
- 2013 - "EA CEO RESIGNS!"
I clearly have no life, but it was just one way to pass the time while listening to an Anaal Nathrakh album.

I'm sure more people would have written reviews, they were just too lazy. I was planning on reviewing Hotline Miami among others but I just didn't feel like doing it because
1. My reviews suck ass
2. That shit is boring
3. I put reason number 3 so this list doesn't seem too short
I remember 2009 being a big year for games, I think. Or maybe that was 2008, whatever.

Well then at least we must acknowledge that all accusations of laziness addressed to Suislide over the years are unjustified, because most of the reviews that were posted here are his and apparently noone else is willing to assist, if just a little bit. Puk tried, but got put off by Suislide refusing to post his reviews, so presumably Suislide is unwilling to allow any competition anyway, so you are right in your laziness.

Even Sui has blown off reviews before ( I don't blame him though, he doesn't owe us shit) He never reviewed Blacklist, and I'm still waiting for his Game of the Year Awards 2007.

Why would you buy beta games? You always value technical quality so highly (and a beta comes without any warranty). And as a beta tester you should not pay but be paid, I would think?
I didn't even know you could buy beta games at all, is this typical to racing games maybe?

I expect PC games to have strong technical merit and be patched where necessary, but nothing precludes me from getting in early, plus if the games are under performing in critical area's I can whinge about it and hopefully the dev's take it onboard.

One factor I would like to add in is that the amount of games released in 2013 has been appallingly low. 2013 was probably one of the worst years in gaming.
I don't count in most shitty fucking indie titles with pixel art side scroll-er graphics. There are a fucking million of them.

Hmmmm.....we still haven't reviewed the biggest game of 2013, GTA V. Has anybody besides me actually played it? If not, I will write a shitty review.

Just write it dammit, even if everyone else here has played it too that is no excuse for you not writing a review.
I didn't play it yet BTW.

It's worth noting that by 2041 the site will certainly be dead because most of us won't be playing videogames anymore, and I doubt many new people will join to keep writing the reviews. I plan on playing videogames for a long time, but you never know what will happen to you in old age.

Then you'll become like pogma. Or Dr Shrink of course, or possibly Master (he's probably an old fart too)

Nope, just the Wii (which is rarely used anymore, the kids use the tablets nowadays, seems like a stupid choice to me but it's theirs to make).
Hm, only 6 reviews in 2014 so far (in almost 7 months), this seems to indicate a clear trend break, bringing forward the closure of the side in 2020 already, as opposed to the 2041 as calculated before.

Aye its true, there has been no REAL innovation, just capitalization on previous products. And that makes me a sad panda.
I want what will not be offered to the public, because it is too dangerous.
