VideoGamesSuck.com :: View topic - I just tried the Gothic 4 demo on PC
2D games have the best GFX. The animations are a lot more fluid and lifelike. There are a lot more characteristics everywhere.
3D games will never be as good looking as 2D ones. Because 2D is art, and 3D is just a few poligon. All I see is statues moving. Completely unreal, down syndrome-like facial animations. It's 2012 and while it happen to cost a lot of hardware, they still look like shit. All that is constatly giving me the imression that I'm playing a video game, this feeling is always there while playing 3D games. While 2D can forget the player about this and there is only him and the stuff happening. There is no "yea, you're playing a videogame, everything looks like it's made of (often greasy) paper"-feeling in between.
The art serves the story, gameplay, even the music better, how it's meant to be.
Now I know now, that I can't change your opinion, and I try to refer from it from now on as you asked. But know that you're missing out some serious stuff. You should try it in secrecy, don't even need to tell us about it if you don't wanna:) Although for example BG is a game that starts slow, you're characters are weak and you need hours and hours of gameplay to get competitive and I doubt that you would wait for that evolvement. But then there's no escape for the player, it sucks you in the story, the characters and everything, you just don't ever want it to end. It just WON'T LET YOU.
