I might not have played Gothic 3 fully upgraded and patched, but it was a disappointment for me and just doesn't feel like a Gothic game (what gothic fucking fights with the mouse?)
Just ran into this Gothic Universe review, which ends with this line which immediately disqualifies the entire review:

The combat was fine in G2 and NotR. It was a little dull in Gothic 1 but they fixed that...
