What looks dated about Morrowind? Only the graphics I would think,.
On a vid I watched, the animals looked small, slow and just downright unconvincing, plus, when your character is striking them with a dagger/sword, it reminded me of watching Benny Hill.

Also the quests in Oblivion are much better than SKyrim -- the Dark Brotherhood storyline is waaaaay better and the mages guild and fighter's guilds are better as well.
DBH in Skyrim sux, no question, I did like the way you were notified and introduced, but beyond that, it was dull, so I made sure to kill them on my 2nd playthru.....that said, I watched 30 or so minutes of Oblivion DBH, and it also seemed unconvincing{at least based on that small sample}, either way, I don't define these games by any one faction, so maybe Oblivion will still have merit.
I'm tempted to buy Oblivion GOTY off steam....

Skyrim really started shrinking the sizes of cities to the point where it was so unrealistic it was almost gamebreaking.
Then again, in Morrowind you can jump from one side of the map to another with high enough skills so that is also stupid.
The difference being that the gamebreaking thing in Morrowind as you describe it is *your own choice*. If you consider this a gamebreaker, just don't do it, so it does not need to affect your experience, unlike in Skyrim (you cannot get around the small city size).
I never did anything of the sort in Morrowind, it never even crossed my mind actually. The world is pretty big, but I remember (it's been a few years and I'm really old so memory's failing) that I could move across pretty quickly in the end with some sort of flying taxis, and otherwise I just walked and tried to follow a slightly different path all the time.
I remember I didn't like the respawning enemies in the ashlands, good for grinding but that's not what the game should be about, other than that I have only good memories of this game. Never tried Oblivion, I was put off by the broken leveling system on release. Recently got a new copy of the game and the expansions, so I might try it one time with some mods that fix the leveling crap.

I'm not off to a good start in Oblivion, constant crashing....it doesn't like my machine, that's for sure....that aside, the combat in Oblivion actually sux hard, not just compared to Skyrim, but in general.
To me, it's FO3 where they got the whole thing right, with NV being a big improvement in gameplay and then Skyrim blowing them out the door from a GFX/environment/technical POV at least.

Yea I recommend just using made and blowing through the combat quickly. The combat in Oblivion was more of a hassle and annoyance. The reason I like it so much is because of the ambience, the setting, the music, the relaxing feeling, and the quests are mostly good. But having to kill people is actually stupid.
If you play Oblivion and play the DLC "Shivering Isles" you can see why BioWare is screwing customers. Shivering Isles is a big expansion and is definitely worth the price, unlike the shit we are usually forced to buy as "DLC"

shivering isles is one awesome stuff, it's big and it's full of great ideas. even from the start you get the feeling that it will be awesome.
also, sicne sheogorath can't stand cats, does anyone know what happens if you play it as a khajit?
As for Alan Wake... even if I wanted to continue playing just for he story, this fucking game just WON'T LET ME! forget everything I just said about how awful it is, this game is just NOT EVEN PLAYABLE because of the awful camera and controls fuckup. YOU CAN'T EVEN RUN STRAIGHT in this game, it's there from the start and today I just got fed up with it completely. it's unbearable.
it's so bad, that i think you ppl should try it and see it with your own eyes as an example of the WORST CONTROLS EVER in a videogame.

I"m sure mods will work with Steam version of Oblivion GOTY although I have not personally tried. In fact I've never used a mod for Oblivion and I love the game so that tells you how good it is. It had the highest metacritic score on Steam (maybe it still does). So really play the game and join the sensation that everyone is talking about, or go play Hello Kitty Island Adventure its your choice :)
I hope Elder Scrolls VI has better quests....otherwise it is just going to be like they are making fun of themselves by doing a parody of what Elder Scrolls games are supposed to be (they will just put in a bunch of content with no direction at all...that would suck).

All I can say is that it isn't the game.
I have gotten Oblivion to play on a laptop that did not even have a graphics card -- it had the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics chip. And I actually completed a playthrough on it. The game is extremely stable.

All my other games work fine, so I suspect the solution would be a reinstall of OS, and I don't plan to do that over this game.
I'll have another PC soon or later, and I'll make Oblivion the first game I install....

I'm currently playing...
Mass Effect 3.
I tried very hard to go into it with an open mind. But it really does suck as much as the review says. The games journalism really hit rock bottom with this one.

[quote="Alez"]I dunno if someone cares but i'll add my games too.
Company of heroes tales of valor. Shitty expansion, fucking SHIT actually, but the game is still wonderful. I play a little skirmish now and then, when i need my tanks and mortar fix.
Fallout 3. I didn't like it when it came out because it's an oblivion mod. Super mutants? More like super gay copy of orks. But now, because of my low standards, i'm enjoying it. I really like the universe they created. The gameplay is kinda crappy. The gun fire is nothing compared to stalker.

You realize super mutants were present in the first fallouts which came out in 1997 and 1998 and therefore predate Oblivion's orcs, right?

Alez is fucked in the head, he also probably has a slow assed PC+ a failure to assign points to his guns skill.

I don't think I made any claims about who was first with what? I just claimed that the game feels like an Oblivion mod and that I do not like the universe and the mutants that populate it.

Don't be fucken silly again....it's a game that's radically different from Oblivion other than them sharing a similar framework, and improves upon Oblvion in many respects.
You can also play it from 40-70hrs, and is unquestionably it's own thing....it may not have the story depth of Obl, but it's moreso a fun game that still rewards you for leveling up etc.
The "relatively" small NMC HD texture pack also greatly enhances the visuals.
NVegas went further in improving nearly all aspects of gameplay/gunplay, and Bethesda hit a peak with Skyrim.

You literally said that Super Mutants were "gay copy of Oblivion's orks" so obviously you DID claim that.
