On board atm, but xonar DG tomorrow.
I appreciate that the Z5500'S might not produce the purest sound, but even without a SC they kickass for movies and games{reinstalled Doom3 hehehe}.
I think the problem with getting something better than the z5500's is cost, it seems like a huge outlay to really bowl it over.
The z5500's also have an optical input which will allow me to connect my bluray player, so overall it suited me, and it's louder and better than I thought it'd be.

u snobby cunt
As it turns out, I'm more of a visual person, ie, I'd rather a 58in plasma+$500 HT than 42in +$1200 HT.....but that's just me, I'm easy to please when it comes to sound.

none actually....since i do most of my audio projects on pc, it didnt make sense to have another system for my temp period of stay. Back home I have some vacuum tube amps, some polks and an onkyo amp in storage.
what better/cheaper alternatives?
I once had someone laugh at my yamaha amp,cuz it isnt a recogniseble name like sony/samsung.Ironically, the idiot has a sansui HITB setup.

I was under the impression that Yamaha are a first rate amp maker sub-$1000.

well they are,it's too bad the only brands he knows are ones he thinks are good,e.g samsung, sansui(and its shittyness)hiSense.FFS he is one ignorant fucker, that thinks 64kbps mp3 is good quality. The amp i have is the entry level RX V365.

He's stupid and oblivious beyond belief.
I find that 256k is pretty good, but my HD telecasts at 384 are a lot better.
I also have the same movie as a 700mb{128kmp3} and 4.4g{775kDTS} and there's a friggin HUGE difference in sound quality.

seems Z5500 really popular among gamers. btw i have a Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro too, but i dont use it cause my mboard has no place to accommodate it. ill probably get a dual cpu workstation built next year and shift my audio stuff into it. btw i did test the X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro with my EMU1820m and it sounded real cheap. the downside to the EMU is that they dont come with hardware eax and stuff since its a procard.

Bought a coaxial cable and it made a boost to bass and overall loudness, and has really improved shotgun blasting in Doom3.
I also connected my bluray player via optical, and damn, this bitch is pumping out some serious sound.

yeah you will notice the difference compared to the regular 1/8" or rca cables. always better to use digital out

I installed the xonar DG and tried using the 3.5mm jacks on it, but based off only testing a few files it sounds the same as coaxial...I also tried to use the optical out on the DG but couldn't get sound.
The testing procedure is a PITA as I have to reboot and change the onboard enable/disable depending on what I'm trying to use.
My brother has the z2300+xonar DG and my z5500's with coaxial out from mobo kicks the crap out of it.
One problem I'm having using coaxial is only stereo sound....how do I get 5.1?....I have heaps of 5.1 HD files.
