okay, so i made two ISO images of my Fallout 3 GOTY disks, because I don't want to use DVD-ROM for this anymore. And it's not working. It says something like "put the original disk in, or give me some code"... something like that.
Installed Silent Hill 2 (retail again) from the previously made ISO files (it's on 3 CD) and it doesn't even bother to put some notification on what supposed to be the problem, simply nothing happens. But with the actual CD1 inside, it runs okay.
Both are installed FROM THE ISO device with the disks mounted in, but when it comes to the actual starting of the program, it screws up. Why is that my machine can't handle games from CD images? Spent half my day trying to find a solution, so in my final state of desperation I ask you.

Did you really expect this would work? Most games come with copy protection schemes based on having the disc in the drive, one of the most quoted advantages of Steam is that it does not require you to have the disc in the drive.
This is not new, this has applied to most games that came out in the last 15 years or so. Half-Life had such a scheme for example, System Shock 2 also.

but this is just not right. i payed for these games and they won't run the way i want them to? crazy. so basically i should just download the whole thing useing a torrent. way to go.
