He's playing you for a fool sucker...he's gone and ruined Far Cry2 and shifts your attention to obvious crap like mobile phone games.
This fucker's already sold out by building a console tacky game for the PC.
The basis of any good shooter must be the shooting, just as the basis of any good racing game must be the driving, but not gfx or any other innovative bullshit that comes at the expense of the core aspect of the game.

It shouldn't allways be at the expense of the core aspect, they should translate the idea to a visual form. They should invent that core aspect and somehow create a gfx that can properly show it on a monitor.
So basically they should first create the idea then make a gfx onto that, not the other way around. Like in Heroes of Might and Magic III for example.

Unfortunately, many developers treat PC gamers like crap by failing to utilize the power and capability of the PC, so we often get games that are lacking in visual oomph and also not as smooth/functional as they could be.
Games like FEAR2 look worse than the 2005 original and whilst Fear2 wasn't console clunky like many other shooters, it lacked the quality of physx , as such the close range combat suffered heavily for it.
Interesting to see what downgrades Crysis2 has to suffer, granted I doubt it'll be one of the worst offending multi-platformers, but given the constant delays, it might debut on the PS4.

Crysis 2, already suffers from terrible FOV, giant UI and the colours are terrible(granted it is an apocalypse).
If it is brutal on system requirements, thi will lead onto consoles having more sales.
Conversely crysis is a game that almost had the perfect balance between gfx and shooting.

I don't know whether by "shooting" you mean the shooting mechanics only, or whether you mean a FPS in general, but a lot of ppl didn't like Crysis, at least not as much as Far Cry 1, b/c it was so linear.

They way I see it, Crysis wasn't strong enough on story and also cocked up the last quarter of the game, however it's mix of awesome gfx and outstanding phsyx, combined with PC smooth gun mechanics made it a memorable game for me, but just not as complete as a FEAR/FAR CRY. HL2 etc.
As puk said, it was a bit linear and only semi-open world compared to Far Cry1, but I think this is the state of virtually every FPS, and the solution is to do a Stalker/MEffect/FO3 hybrid, so that you've got a stronger and developing story, RPG interaction which can be interesting and funny, and the shooting part of the game.
IMO, only FO3 got everything right so to speak, ie, Stalker was a very basic RPG, and ME had tragically bad, muted, console clunky weapons....of course, people still prefer one game over the other for their own reasons, but from an objective POV, FO3 did a better overall job and made traditional run and guns as boring and antiquated as hell.

Actually took a gamble(it's sad to note that they actually took a risk in this day/age)by ''innovating" on the shooting aspect.I'm amazed, the title was well recieved.

The shooting mechanic wasnt really great, just ok but better than HALO'S.
So far, I, haven't played a fps with a shooting mechanic, such as killzone 2's(yeah it is on a console, blow me).
-KZ2
-Crysis
-F.E.A.R
-DOOM
IMO have given me much fun based on the shooting mechanic.

never played Killzone 2. Consoles aren't good for shooters, I prefer third person platformers with cover mechanics like Uncharted. And I hate Halo
FEAR had amazing shooting mechanics except for that god awful SMG. Far Cry 1 was perfect. I liked Crysis, but they didn't have enough guns, and I wanted longer range on the sniper rifle.
I still think it's impossible to have games in jungle with smart AI. How do you tell the AI when to spot me when the trees and grass are blowing in the wind? What algorithm can you use that doesn't run in exponential space?

Justify it in game,by arming them with tools necessary i.e motion trackers, thermal sensor(nanosuit could counter that with cloak/lowers temperature) etc.
Int terms of algorithm, why they'd just hire master and turn the enemies muslim.

What I mean is how do you 'hide' in a bush. How hidden do u have to be?

I get what you mean.
Make up for the super iraqi-eagle-eyed enemy that can spot you in a bush a 100 miles away,by, providing in-game/universe tools to explain to the player.
The programmers shall then R&D a technical way to the AI predicament and hopefully implement it in the next cycle when quad cores dominate.(puk this isnt the answer you're looking for but fuck it, I'm just a crappy java programmer)
