LOL and as bezerker would probably say
"banning the petrol is falsified since other methods of fuel including human biogas also can be used to drive automobiles in iran and therefore such a ban in not warranted"

This is not about a ban to be imposed on others but a self-imposed ban, even you should see that this is quite different. No human rights are involved either, so there is no reason why Total should not be free to boycott Iran.
Whether it the sensible thing to do is another question of course, usually such boycotts are not very effective (e.g. the US boycott of Cuba).

Wow you actually posted an interesting link.
This is probably going to have an impact on the already crippled Iranian economy.

Any ideas what France is up to since Sarkozy came to power? He seems violently aggressive. He handled the French riots with severe force. This ironically propelled him to his current position. I'm guessing most French hate North Africans, which is why they supported his actions. Usually the French are anti american but keep quiet. This guy seems to be more vocal about his policies, whatever they may be.

I do not think so, there is generally a quite anti-islamitic tendency in Europe, this has several causes. On the immigrant's side:
- lack of will to integrate by a great deal of islamic immigrants;
- the relatively very high crime rate of second generation islamic immigrants;
- the backward attitude of islamic immigrants with respect to, for example, freedom of expression and gay rights.
On the local population's side there is the usual fear of strangers taking their jobs / daughters / social security etc. Politicians did nothing for decades (coupling immigrants to problems was politically incorrect), and now they tend to swing to the other extreme end (doing too much).
'Tough' politicians (who act first and think later) seem to be fashionable anyway.
