Introducing Project Natal, a revolutionary new way to play: no controller required. See a ball? Kick it, hit it, trap it or catch it. If you know how to move your hands, shake your hips or speak you and your friends can jump into the fun -- the only experience needed is life experience.
Apparently having to use a controller with all those buttons is too difficult for the console target group
Oh yeah, I did not watch the video because it requires you to install silverlight (no surprise there).

Come to think of it, it may actually be good if consoles move further into the 'casual' direction. If consoles focus more on casual games, games as we like them get out of the focus there, causing such games to be developed for the PC (as opposed to developed for consoles and ported to PC).

I really think the only hope now is for open source PC games. The consequence of this is of course that they will have incredibly outdated graphics.
You could make a great porn game with this stuff, that's absolutely for sure.

i despise consoles, they're for dumbasses who can't handle the "complexity" of a pc. but this time they gone too far. microsoft stole the whole idea of windows from somewhere else (known fact) and now they do it again this time they copy nintendo, and their wii. ok, sell your trash to those retarded 5 year olds since they not able use advanced technology like a keyboard, only being capable to waveing their hands.. but he thing that angers me the most is that microsoft telling us about this piece of shit like they invited the whole thing originally, it's just an affront to all justice henceforth they should be sentenced death by various medieval tortures. they are common thieves, nothing more.
and one more thing. watch the annuncement trailer (not on xbox.com of course, there you need to download some microsoft shit to view the videos). on time, when the little fucker waves his hand in front of the screen wich shows a gayass dinosaur, the DINO MOVES FIRST! so it's all just an animation rendered PREVIOUSLY!!!!! AND THEY LEFT IT IN THE PROMO VIDEO!!
thats just lame

OMG Microsoft wants to launch this for PC's and for office use too. So not only games can become even dumber.

I bought a Wii some time ago for the kids and used it myself so far only to play Paper Mario (a Nintendo 64 game as a Wii virtual console download)
So recently I bought a pile of second hand Wii games and in there was House of the Dead Overkill, a zombie shooter, so I thought I'd give it a try. The Wii controller should theoretically work fine for shooters (you should be able to accurately point to a particular point on the screen, similar to the mouse).
In the gameplay it actually uses 1 button only (!), i.e. the trigger of the gun. All you do is point (which is pretty awkward BTW, much less precise than with the mouse, but maybe I should take more time to get the hang of it) and shoot. You do not even need to move, the game moves you to the next location once you finished the zombie horde in the previous one. And if you die you resurrect and continue where you were when you died only with your health at 100%. Is this actually a game I wonder, there seems to be no challenge at all and it seems no particular effort is required whatsoever. Maybe this changes after the 30 minutes or so I gave it, but I do not think I'll find out. I have House of the Dead 3 for the PC here too, I might install this to see how it compares.
I also bought Super Paper Mario, the native Wii reincarnation of the Paper Mario Series (I loved the previous incarnation). This Wii version seems so dumbed down that it makes the change from Deus Ex to Deus Ex 2 seem perfectly acceptable.
- You no longer have a party, so you cannot use their special abilities (which takes away a lot of the tactics of the game);
- It basically turned into a side scroller (you can get the third dimension back for short periods of time, but even then the world is so much more limited and empty than it was before);
- the leveling-up system is a joke (only health and power can increase, and they increase automatically, you cannot choose what to level up, so basically this is no longer an RPG);
- the fighting system is hugely simplified taking away all tactics, now you can only jump on anything that moves, no need to time anything or use other attacks which could be more effective against particular enemies.
So far this game seems a travesty of the series, but on the strength of the previous incarnation I'll give it some more time.
So far the Wii seems to be worse for gaming than the other consoles, probably only the Iphone and this xbox Natal-crap will be even worse.

you should try okami or resident evil 4, they might prove good on the wii. i've only played RE4 on pc with a gamepad, but it might be fun if you can shoot with the controller a'la house of the dead. also okami looked interesting too because of the brush in the game and you can draw with the controller. i saw it on ps2, if you can excuse the low polygons it might be good.

puk likes it too IIRC. I played only the first one, on the PC, and hated it. I had expected something like Thief but it was nothing like it. I found it ridiculously unrealistic and really silly. From what I heard the later installments are actually movies with some gaming parts inserted here and there, and I do not care much about movies.

i've only tried the second title on pc for a few hours, then put it away for some reason. then years later i played MGS on the gameboy a few months back. it's the same title but with a completly different story. didn't played too many games on the gba yet (well this one was made for the gbc to be exact), but it was really good. it has all the possible actions of the original game, and somehow the controls are great even on the gameboy. strangely the story was a bit more mature than what is usually expected from a gameboy game (with genocide and underage death) but still they had to rename the cigarette to "smoke emitter" or something.. geez. the final cutscene (well mostly pictures with text flowing) was like 20 minutes long. that game was better than i thought it would be, i'll definetly replay it in the near futrure.

OK, maybe this Kinect thing (as it is called now) is not so bad after all, otherwise we would not have had this video.
