Some pleasure news

"The only gunman captured alive after the 2008 Mumbai attacks has been sentenced to death by an Indian court

The attacks left 174 people dead, nine of them gunmen. Relations between India and Pakistan have still to recover.

Judge ML Tahaliyani said "he should be hanged by the neck until he is dead", adding he had lost his right to "humanitarian treatment". "

I'm just reading this book about the world between 1890 and 1914. One chapter is about the anarchist movement which was quite widespread in the decades before 1914. Among them were quite a few terrorists: in the period the book is about they assassinated quite a few world leaders, the king of Italy, the presidents of France and the US, two prime minister of Spain, etc. I'd say they were more successful in assassinating top politicians than any present terrorist movement.

Their idea was to abolish all forms of property and government, in that situation all people would behave socially and reasonably. This is quite a silly notion, it would seem, so how come this movement got so much momentum, particularly since these are poor organisers (anarchists, what did you expect)?

It was simply the desperate situation of most common people at that time. Housing was bad, food was bad, pay was insufficient for making sure your kids could have a better future than you, all conditions were bad, you were being exploited by factory owners, and there was nothing you could do to make it better, and if you resorted to strikes, you found your own state against you, and you risked being shot by the police. They supported inequality and injustice rather than fight it, so they were your enemy and I for one can understand why in such a situation people would resort to terrorism.

I guess in such a situation most people are willing to accept just anything and anyone who promises them a better future. Now still this seems to be the fertile soil on which terrorism grows: desperation and hopelessness. Improve people's lives a bit and give them some freedom and hope and they have something to lose and are much less likely to become terrorists. The desperation as a breeding ground for terrorism could come from non-economic circumstances too of course, e.g. if you cannot possibly get any level of self-determination for your people and there is no hope at all for improvement (e.g. the situation only deteriorates) this will have the same effect.

BTW it was not only the poor itself who resorted to terrorism (mostly bombing, but assassinations were also carried out with pistols and knives) but also rich people who took the fate of the poor to heart.

This may be a lesson for the Israeli, who seem to act completely contradictory. In stead of giving Palestinians hope non-economically, they also take away what little they have left economically, which breeds even more terrorists.

Of course Suislide will not agree, because in his simple logic the only way to deal with terrorist is to kill them and Israel is beyond critisism anyway. I'd say it would make more sense to tackle the root of the problem rather than the symptoms.

anarchy means more than chaos and destruction. it can be living while not being monitored. without any order or hierarchy or money. of course there's no guarantee that it will be peaceful, that's for sure, but at least we deffinetly know, that order guarantees wars. because each country has his own beliefs of what order means by their different laws and religion. not to mention wealth.
by anarchy there will be blood and sadness too, but only in small micro enviroments. there's no way that anybody can start a war for example during total anarchy, because nobody have to follow no one. everybody can live by their own idea of living. does that necessarily means chaos? or will it be the promise land that humans were to accomplish on earth?
it depends on the nature of humanity.
so that means anyone who's against anarchy does not believe in the good side of people? maybe his own?
well... kinda yes. or he's just too comfortable to give up internet and pizza delivery.

Israelis are smart, they will simply reject these foolish lessons. these lessons belong to boring professors and dull personalities.

BS. Palestinians are islamic, where there is islam and other cultures, there will always be problems, because Islamic culture is radical and savage. savagery must be dealt with more savagery, in fact it must be at least 2xsavagery. If Palestinians where Buddhists then middle east would be a peaceful place.

BS. Palestinians are islamic, where there is islam and other cultures, there will always be problems, because Islamic culture is radical and savage.

Palestinians were not known to be extremists muslims, it is only Israels repressive and discriminatory policies combined with the corrupt PLO rule after the Oslo accords that make them extremists. Mind you, PLO is not religious at all, and they were the undisputed spokes persons of the Palestinians for decades (if there was competition, it was mainly left wings secular movements, not islamists), and if they had made the best of the (admittedly limited) opportunities they had after their return to Palestine, few people would have thought of resorting to Hamas. It is exactly like I said, if you are in a desperate situation you are willing to accept anything that promises you a way out, even religious fanatics. I guess this is the more the case if there is an adversary that has lots of religious fundamentalists itself.

You're insane b/c you are hell bent on anhialating all Muslims.

Furthermore, your logic doesn't work there. Assuming, arguendo, that I claimed you were insane b/c I said I would put that quote in my sig but didn't, then that would make me illogical, not insane.
