I just ran into this article, which basically says that developers sometimes get a bonus from the publisher if their game reaches a certain metascore.

This is apparently considered a bad development, but it seems to me it gives the publishers less incentive to artificially obtain higher review scores (it'll cost them extra money; they'll have to pay a bonus to the developer), so it seems OK to me.

nice1. they deserve it to suck the devils cock. so now you know the review system is total BS. just a stupid pseudo marketting strategy. personally i find it very sad that the art form in the game making has gone away replaced with prostitution of the gaming industry. where ever art tries to express itself in the society, soon business thugs will rip out the emotion and finesse and make it into a flea market. i think we humans need to be less selfish.

I'm not sure, the risk of *developers* trying to rig reviews seems to be much smaller than the risk of *publishers* doing the same. This system does not give the publisher an incentive to rig, but the developers, who are usually in no position to do so anyway. This does give them an incentive to make a good game though (that is, 'a game that reviewers like'). So even if the publisher screws up and does not properly market the game, the developer may get a bonus for delivering a good game. That sounds OK to me.
