I tend to agree, although I'd prefer many of the existing games to simply improve as well, for ex, if Mass Effect 2 had Crysis gfx and COD4 weapons "quality", it would be an awesome improvement, same with Far Cry2, ie, had that game had a better shooting experience, it would've been close to epic.

The guy is a pretentious douche bag. He puts down people who look down at others tastes in games and then does the same thing himself. He's a hypocritical piece of shit.
I mean he says bullshit like nothing focuses on the human condition, etc...like whatever dude who gives a shit.
Anyways, currently there are games which are deep and thought provoking and there are some that are just simple shooters.
Here is the way I view it, which is the most correct way because I only write gold. Make the game however the fuck you want, make it extremely deep and emotional or shallow and happy...anyway you fucking like. Then, after you make it...I will play and let you know if it's good or not. That's all there is to it. There are too many aspects to consider than this douche bag doesn't address. Sure you can provide a deep emotional experience, but if the controls blow or the game is unbalanced then no one is going to give a fuck. There are so many more inputs compared to movies and television that the process to make something emotional and deep, can be clouded by so many different aspects of a game that have to be taken care of it.
Either way, this guy is fag.

I can't handle this guy, he is so annoying.
Jokes aside, if there are any young ones on this forum, I highly suggest doing educational research in video games, as it is more or less an untapped market. It is recently getting very big, and no longer are gamers considered pariahs in the art-ish world. After all, we really need someone come along and properly explain what the fuck just happened to cause consolitus.

I could watch it for a few minutes only too. It never occurred to me that there is some generally accepted notion that games must be fun and nothing more. It is like saying that all Hollywood games must be violent. So it seems the premise underlying his rant is false to begin with, then what's the point of watching the whole 8 minutes or so?

Most of the big dollar games involve shitloads of violence{not that I'm complaining}, however, the reason so few games are memorable is because as the guy said, they're nothing but macho power fantasies aimed at 12-14yr olds.
If they're not going to give us a proper increase in GFX/Phyx etc, then without ME2/FO3 RPG elements as well, raw shooters are literally just stupid and monotonous........I don't include tactical games as their difficulty and stealth pacing is a more intellectually demanding form.
