VideoGamesSuck.com :: View topic - Fallout 3 crashes. A lot.
I just got Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition. I installed, then installed all the DLC.
That went all fine. Then I fired up the game. Recommended settings was 800x600 on High with 4x AA 8x Anisotropic filtering. I was like WTF. So I jacked the res up to 1280x1024(max res)and it kept freezing. I eventually jacked it down to where it was barely playable. But still playable none the less.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
on
XFX 680i LT mobo
Intel Pentium Extreme Edition (Dual Core) OC'ed to 4.01 GHz where as the stock clock was 3.73 GHz (I raised the multiplier by one)
4 GB of DDR2 800 SLI ready Ram by OCZ
XFX 9600 GSO
550w PSU
2 Hard drives. 100 GB and then a 1 TB drive partitioned into 2 sections as D(games, where Fallout 3 is) and E(where I put all the crap, I.E. TeamSpeak, Xfire, etc.)
I'm d*mn sure its not the OC on the processor but rather the processor itself. RAM should be fine. Both sticks work. I've read up and most folks haven't had an issue with Windows 7 and Fallout 3. And I've looked up and down and most folks I've seen have a 9400 or 9500 GT but have an Intel Core 2 Duo and are running on High on 1920x1050 or 1280x1024.
Again, as I've stated, I'm pretty sure its the processor not being able to hand the load. (NetBurst is a very slow and dated architecture anyways)Correct me if I'm wrong. But I dont see how anything else is the issue.
I'm very close to getting a Core 2 Quad, a GTX 275 so I can max the settings out, and 850w PSU to power the 275.
Any comments, suggestions, etc?
All help is appreciated.

Try to switch AA and AF off, recommending this with an 800 x 600 resolution seems absurd to me.

275 wouldn't use much more power than my 4850, and I'm using a 620W PSU.

you should have been able to play it at 1680 x 1050 - Medium Quality@60fps on a gtx280, according to this
OR perhaps it is highly likely it is crashing due to pirated software.
Besides that proc is too hot and guzzles power. You should get a newer i920 processor with a gtx card
btw it seems you have picked up some new concepts.....keep learning boy, that is the only way

OK you idiots, the last 3 topics I made were copied from the IGN boards, but with your IQ...

Strange concept of fun you have there.
But who gave the right answer?

certain observations are to be made here.
- you used the word 'idiots' but only quoted one person
- it is sad but not surprising to note that you simply pirated ign content and put it here. Looks like no improvement from your part.
- in the last finishing sentence you used "your IQ" singular, but you addressed "idiots" in plural
in light of these observations, i conclude you have a lot to learn young boy, a lot to learn. And thus a quote is appropriate
