It is not merely the 50 bucks (I guess these are insignificant). Having a review copy before the game is in the shops improves the news value and hence sales of your magazine.
And they did not get bribed, Ubisoft attempted to bribe them in vain.
It is likely this is standard procedure for Ubisoft so any review published before or immediately after release date is to be treated as highly contaminated and avoided at all cost.
