VideoGamesSuck.com :: View topic - Retail games that require Steam or Ubisoft DRM
Anyone know of a site that lists retail games that require Steam? I could not find any on the web.
I know of the following:
1. Valve games
- Counter-Strike
- Counter-Strike Source
- Counter-Strike Condition Zero
- Day of Defeat
- Day of Defeat Source
- Half-Life Anthology
- Half-Life 2
- Half-Life 2 Episode 1
- Half-Life 2 Episode 2
- Left 4 Dead
- Left 4 Dead 2
- Portal
- Team Fortress
- Team Fortress 2
2. Non-Valve games
- Aliens vs Predator 2010
- Alpha Prime
- Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2
- Call of Duty 7: Black Ops
- Civilization V
- Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (multiplayer only)
- Dawn of War 2
- Defence Grid: The Awakening
- Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution
- Duke Nukem Forever
- Empire Total War
- Fallout: New Vegas
- FEAR 2
- GTI Racing
- GTR Evolution (multiplayer only)
- Just Cause 2
- Kane & Lynch 2: Dog days
- Killing Floor
- Last Remnant
- Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions
- Mafia 2
- Metro 2033
- MLB Front Office Manager
- NBA 2K9
- Order of War
- RACE - the WTCC Game
- RACE 07 (multiplayer only)
- RACE on (multiplayer only)
- Ragdoll Kung Fu
- Railworks
- Red Orchestra
- Rogue Warrior (multiplayer only)
- RUSE
- Saints Row 2
- Saints Row The Third
- The Ship
- Sin Episodes: Emergence
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Speedball 2 - Tournament
- Supreme Commander 2
- Velvet Assassin
- Worldwide Soccer Manager 2009
Since the new Ubisoft DRM has the same characteristics as Steam, and then more, I'll add those too:
- Assassin's Creed 2
- Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
- Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom
- Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic
- Splinter Cell: Conviction
Anyone know of games I missed?
If I feel like it I might try to keep this list up to date.
If this trend continues it would be easier to make a list of games that do NOT have such DRM systems in place.

Like I said, I was trying to find this info and could not find it. I may not be the only one who needs this information.
For example, if you buy second hand games, you must know this, because your purchase is completely worthless if you do not also get the Steam account associated with it. But you also buy second hand games, so you know this and you are just trolling, right? A shocking conclusion!

true, but that affects only dumb ppl, if you have the smarts then no need to worry. for eg on ebay you can see if it is mentioned in the description or ask the seller.if the seller is cheating then you get refund back from ebay, report to ebay and also add feedback on the seller. OR like mighey would say "nah...i just pirate em, sitting on my couch eating potato chips"

So you ask the seller with each game if it is Steam infected? Or only with games you suspect to be infected? Who would expect this from any non Valve games then?
Maybe you do not buy second hand games often, but in my experience (and I buy lots of second hand games) most sellers know nothing about their games, and assume you can just make a new account even after being told by the installation program that you can do this only once. They sell the game a long time after having read that and have forgotten all about it.
A similar problem occurs with multiplayer BTW. Games like PES (from PES 5 onward, IIRC) allow you to create a multiplayer account only once. I have yet to find a list of such games too (there are more games with this annoying feature, I remember only BF 2142, Guild Wars, the Trackmania games and WOW at this time).
I would also like to see lists of games with particular copy protection schemes, so that you know what to avoid if some scheme corrupts your PC as well as about limited numbers of installs. So that you know in advance that MS Flightsim X can be installed only twice. But of course this affects only stupid people like me; not you because you always ask sellers about this.

LOL, you had me fooled for a second, for that time I thought you were being serious. For the others who might read this: this is steam.com, and you will not find anything about games there. You would expect to find such info here but there it says only about games you can buy on steam, whereas the question is about *retail* games that require steam.

if any game is using steam it will be on the steam site. whts the problem? all those games in the list can be found on the steam site.

Like Call of Duty 4, Arx Fatalis, etc. You can buy these retail (i.e. in the shop) or on steam. If you buy them retail, they do no require steam (registering then on steam would add little or nothing, so no one does that) so these games (i.e. the vast majority) should be taken out of the list.
If you buy them on steam, obviously they require steam, but this will be evident on the second hand market since then all you can get is a steam account (no physical media).
So what I want is a list of games that are bought in the shop and have mandatory Steam registration.

I added some games to the list. These are based on research (i.e. putting Google to work) rather than first hand experience though.

This is not true BTW: Half-Life doesn't need Steam (Steam became a requirement for the rereleases from 2004 onward only). The expansion packs Opposing Force and Blue Shift do not need Steam either (but these were made by Gearbox of course).
