I'm pretty sure the camera is still always on, kinect is required, and theres still lots of DRM crap.
Also, its still $100 more than a PS4.
Also, that is $500. At that price point, it is probably better just to spend a couple hundred more and buy a PC.

MS just saves what can be saved at this point. They basically admit their greed and that what they did was a failure and this is a huge prestige loss to them in the eyes of everyone. Also what does that leaves the xbox?
Now it's just a bad ps4 clone with cheaper hardware, kinect with the big-brother mode always on, and a shitty name. All at a higher price.
