Okay, this is a thread about Pokémon. Criticise it, praise it, whatever, as long as it's Pokémon related. Okay? I think it's a pretty good game. I think that the only reason people say it's for children is because of the anime, which is targeted to children. But have you seen some of the Pokédex entries? Those are definitely NOT for kids.
The main reason I like it is because it makes you think. I like the type matchups and the battling aspect. I think it's nice how they do that.
What I don't think are nice are "genwunners". Genwunners are people who only like the first generation of Pokémon, and hate all the others. That means that the only like 1/5 of the Pokémon there are. Genwunners usually brand themselves as the "true Pokémon fans", but I think the true fans are the ones who like all five generations, regardless of how weird the designs are.
If you post, please be intelligent. I don't want any posts saying "pokemon suks balls go kill urself u faget". I know I can't do anything about it; I'm not a moderator; but please, for everyone's sakes: be civil.
This may be caused by the fact that this is a PC gaming site and Pokémon is not available on PC (at least so I presume).
My kids have loads of Pokémon DVDs, there is nothing of any merit in there to me so I steer clear of Pokémon. I bought a few Pokémon games on the Gamecube and the DS for the kids to try, but they didn't like them so I sold the games, never tried them myself (except a few minutes of Pokémon Colosseum on the Gamecube, this didn't seem appealing in any manner).

Some of you might be aware that I have love for gameboy games. This one is the only console I own and truth to be told, plenty of awesomeness can be found in those grey cardridges. I mean almost 20 years of gaming library and only one machine. And there are some complex and deep shit on this one.
Now in the beginning, I set a rule that I won't even check out Mario and Pokemon games. Mario is a fucking plumber, for him to play the main role in a platform game is the most stupid idea I've ever heard (although gotta admit Yoshi's Island was great fun).
Now as for Pokemon, I just avoided it because of the enormous hype it got. And the fact that they release the same game over and over again only with more shit to "catch"...
But I came across the very first two titles Blue and Gold for 5 bucks each and they both were in supreme condition especially Gold which I think was never even used before. So I overcame my prejudice and bought them. The thing that these were the very first original ones with only a smaller amount of creatures (well.. approx 100 if you can call that a small amount) and that these games lasts for 50-100 hours intriqued me. I mean they works on a system that was made back at 89'.
Didn't try them yet, since I still have my hands full of great GBA titles, but one day I will.

Yeah, I recently read an article in a newspaper about the latest Mario game (new super mario bros 2 for the 3DS). It basically read that Nintendo could sell cow droppings if they labelled it with the mario moniker, but that thank god mario games were invariably of high quality. Apparently it had not occurred to this journalist that these game sell precisely (or at least partly) *because* of this invariably high quality. I.e. he made the same mistake you made by rejecting these games from the outset. The fact that they are popular does not necessarily mean that they suck. But we have covered this before so I'll leave it here.

Actually mario games on the GBA were mediocre at best. Mario Land 2 on the original gameboy was okay, but the games on the GBA were way too easy, slow, without any obstacle, basically you needed to walk to the end of the level, maybe jump here and there. (excuding Yoshi's Island which was great, but Mario was an annoying little baby in that title).
The GBA super mario platformers were too basic and incredibly BORING.
Now Sonic Advance, Metroid or Castlevania... those were awesome.

Enjoyed Yellow and Gold back then in the gameboy, just beat Black on emu and seems like every game after Gold/Silver is a reskin with the same shitty rodent pokemon you find at first then a shitty bird pokemon different names filling the same niche and so on.
Even the story and whole structure of going in gyms etc... Pokemon is probably the most blatantly recycled shit in gaming considering the first games were released in 1998
