Yeah but devs aren't really creating new and interesting plot devices.
devs dont have a free hand in big corps anymore...it all boils down to the management. Profit maximization is the motto. How to get max returns on your investment considering the budget allocated for the game. So obviously they keep it safe by following an established franchise. Innovation and creativity will be injected in small minuscule doses as long as the hit formula of the game-genre safe to sell atleast n-number of copies so that there is a min profit for the investors.Get it? So only independent game companies, you have never heard of are more likely to do something creative. devs are just pawns in the hand of the management these days. its not pc gaming like the 1990's where the devs would pull the trigger.

I shall be seeking outta your leep for advice.to be fairly honest the modern warfare series has lended its success partialy to it's 'story' otherwise 12 year olds would be crying about how hard the game is and lazy the devs are for not creating icons such as GHOST.

WW2/modern day shooters are just as interesting as the history of fiddle-cases in my opinion. Just like every game that relates to the present times. NFS or Rally racers, every sport-game.. Why would I want to drive a car virtually too? What's next? Walking or eating simulator?
Modern Day videogames are boring. It guarantees uneventfulness, you can be sure that it holds exaclty ZERO surprise. You don't need to play it to know each and every scene of it. Not because you saw it in other games, you can see it on the streets, read it in the papers, see it on the news, you can't even run away from it. On the other hand, Sci-Fi or maybe Fantasy is the kind of genre that can hold some of my attention. Who the hell wants to shoot some afghan terrorists as an ordinary soldier, when you can wield a plasma rifle blasting off mutants or scorch some goblin hordes with massive fireballs..
you know some lazy ass would describe you as an escapist.i could think you're a cool dude.but remember 80percent of drivers are pussies and wouldnt go past 120km/h so I think thats why nfs is succeeding so much.
I thought about this escapist-thing too.. well there's truth in that maybe. The last racing game that I enjoyed was Rollcage. That was awesome back in the day. You flew through the walls with 600m/h sending rockets after others. It offers a high variety of tricks to perform based on how you drive in some situations, how you use your (sometimes even the enemy's) items.. or because some part of the tracks (one level I found an oppurtunity to execute a horizontal rocket jump).

i beleive it all depends on the plot. If you can have an interesting plot/gameplay killing afghan terrorists as an agent can be pretty exciting too.
Yeah Fahrenheit was kinda cool. Max Payne also.

Holy shit someone that actually played Rollcage! I loved that game to death and still play it nowadays,it doesnt get old.the only disadvantage was the short(for me tho)tracks, even the soundtrack fit the game(none of the rock/rap shit in todays racers)whenever I would lose(which was next to never)id drive in the opposite direction just for crashing.shit craterface u really got a good taste in games! Here is $1000 in virtual currency!
