Omikron - The Nomad Soul
you won't regret playing this even if the models look like they were shaped with an axe. Crazy awesome story and ideas are stuffed into that game. Sci-fi with some mystical stuff where you actually plays yourself as a gamer. Check it out immediately.

Let's you delve into the wolrd of the series with all key guys appearing like smoking man, scully, mulder, some ufos and stuff, the whole case is worthful of the series
Silent Hill 2-3-4
Maybe some people don't like it but trust me they're all great. Especially the third. It has a great athmosphere, nice story, and yes.. good controls (I had no problem on hard mode).
Baldur's Gate II
Other people already suggested this, but I have to mention it again, everybody should play this once in their life. The first BG can be annoying a lot, but it is advised to play it also to get the full story. Not to mention that BGII has a lot of references to it's prequel.
I know that there are a lot more grat ones, but these aready promise hundreds of gaming time so have fun.

I played #2 for a few hours years ago, but found no redeeming value in it whatsoever.

For Shadow of Chernobyl, I never played the Complete mod, but I did play L.U.R.K. and there's a ton of changes to the graphics and gameplay. For example, there's a 35 kg carry limit, no HUD, weapons have more realistic recoil, etc.. It's also hard as a motherfucker, so be prepared.

Try Morrowind instead of Oblivion. Hell, try it instead of every game from the above.
The game world is much more variant and the game itself has more stuff in it in every way. More weapons, more skills ands spells, the landscapes and cities are much more diverse. It's way better.

I wouldn't bother with ME1.....but do get FONew Vegas......in some ways it has better gameplay than FO3, but the gfx aren't as good etc.
Everything is better when u experience it in a vault!!
